WHAT TO EXPECT
Unfortunately, due to the passing of a very close friend, our keynote speaker, Mark Templeton is no longer able to join us. However, he has graciously secured DigitalOCean's Founding CEO, Ben Uretsky, to come and tell his story of launching and scaling one of the world's top technology companies.
While we're saddened by Mark's news and send him our very best, we are excited to have Ben joining us as our keynote presenter.
Here's a little more about him and his amazing background.
Ben Uretsky co-founded DigitalOcean in 2011 and was accepted into the Techstars 2012 accelerator in Boulder, CO. DigitalOcean is a leading cloud computing IaaS provider based in New York, focused on delivering the simplest cloud platform for developers and teams.
To date, more than 1,000,000 developers have deployed over 50 million cloud servers, and the company has expanded its worldwide infrastructure footprint with multiple datacenter locations around the globe. DigitalOcean has grown to over 400 employees with half the team located outside of NYC headquarters working remotely.
Ben drives DigitalOcean's vision, strategy, and growth, providing developers with a simple and robust cloud infrastructure experience. His leadership has guided DigitalOcean's rise from a cloud startup for developers to the third largest and fastest growing cloud computing platform, according to Netcraft.com. The company has raised $123 million in funding from Andreessen Horowitz, Access Industries, IA Ventures, CrunchFund, and Techstars.
Ben has more than 15 years experience in network engineering and the infrastructure space. Prior to DigitalOcean, he co-founded and built a managed hosting provider, ServerStack, that supported some of the top websites online and generated million-dollar annual revenues. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology from Pace University.
Ben will share lessons learned during the launch and growth stages at DigitalOcean as well as share anecdotes and insights regarding corporate culture, corporate VC and the company’s globally expanding footprint.
CEO of FullStory
In 2014, Scott and a group of ex-Google engineers wondered: if Google could make it easy for people to find answers on the Web, why couldn’t we do the same for your online customer experience (CX)?
Turns out they could. So they built FullStory.
Today, FullStory helps thousands of CX professionals make the digital world less frustrating for millions of consumers each day. The Company has raised $25M from various Silicon Valley investors including Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Google Ventures and Salesforce.
Previously, Scott pursued a career in the corporate world before founding numerous other startups.
Scott will provide insights from his entrepreneurial journey and the ins and outs of attracting West Coast investment to the Southeast.

APPLY TO PITCH
Last year, Venture Pitch attracted 11 venture capital principals from around the U.S. – the largest collection of VC’s in S.C. in 2017. A key reason for their participation is the opportunity to hear pitches from top ventures. To begin finding the best companies to put on stage this year, we’re pleased to open the pitch application process!
To apply, entrepreneurs must email the following information to email@example.com by Wednesday, Sept 5th.
Executive Summary: a brief 1-2 paragraph overview of your company as you would present it to potential investors
Traction: a short summary of recent market traction and investor interest/engagement
Pitch Deck: a draft pitch deck (assume a 5 minute pitch format)
Applicants will be notified of their status by Friday, September 14th with final pitch selections announced by Friday, September 21st. All application information will be treated confidentially and will be used for pitch selection purposes only.
An independent Pitch Selection Committee will review all completed applications and determine the top 6-8 ventures to pitch. We anticipate, as in prior years, receiving applications from ventures across South Carolina and neighboring states.
